Big Fix Fantastic!

The excitement’s been building for weeks... and on Wednesday 21 July at 7.30pm, the Big Fix Live! rocked ITV’s glitzy London Studios!

Presented by Donal MacIntyre and Natalie Pinkham, the 90-minute show celebrated the second anniversary of ITV Fixers, and put centre stage the incredible young people, whose passion has lead to so many amazing projects.

The studio was packed with an audience of 650 people, watching the spectacular performances and films, which highlighted some of the toughest issues affecting young people today, including knife crime, abuse and homophobia.

Presenter Donal MacIntyre said: “Big Fix Live! is a crazy mix of the glossy and the gritty, and a creative collision between showbiz and grassroots action. We really pulled it off on the night and really celebrated the work of ITV Fixers all over the country.”

Daniel Banton (24), from Enfield, put on a gripping anti-knife crime performance for the show. He said: “It’s amazing, so many groups coming together to work on one thing – it’s brilliant. The atmosphere is buzzing.”

Celebrities including Stephen Fry, Alan Carr, John Barrowman and Brooke Kinsella lent their support to the Big Fix Live! through video messages, while Steve Smith, renowned director of Alan Carr Chatty Man and the Graham Norton Show, gave his time free, as did many other studio staff.

Steve Smith said: “I think what’s been nice about this show is that you just feel it’s a lot of young people being creative, and doing their own thing, and being able to communicate their own ideas without anyone giving them any boundaries or trying to rein them in and tell them what they can and can’t do, which is fabulous. It’s very refreshing.”

Fiona Malpass (19) from Rayleigh, screened her mental health film Suffer In Silence. She said: “It’s really exciting, it’s just an amazing opportunity to be here, and it’s just so interesting to see how it all works, and it’s so nice to see so many other young people who are doing positive things.”

Sarah Bousri (23), part of all-female rap/grime act, Dutty Girls, said: "It's a great honour to be invited by ITV Fixers to do such a big show, to represent what we're trying to do for the community [and women] and to empower women.

"When we first got here I was so scared, I thought ‘oh my God’ but it was an absolutely amazing experience. I'm just so glad I did it."

James Armstrong (18), from Newcastle, who spoke about his film on youth homelessness said: “I’m very excited to be down here. It’s amazing what ITV Fixers have done for me and everyone else who was involved. They’ve really helped us, and it’s been great.”

Bournemouth rapper Theone Coleman (25) was chosen to perform his song ‘Lifted’ as the grand finale of The Big Fix Live! With Skelmersdale Indie group Endeavours, body-poppers, dancers, girl band De’votion, and the Trowbridge Youth Choir all getting involved, it was a truly breathtaking performance.

Theone said: "It's fantastic for me, but also for other young people all around the country, who have come here to be part of it and had this opportunity."
